- The purpose of this research is to examine effectiveness of group discussions about careers to improve the independence of career decision making of XI grade accounting students of SMK N 1 Boyolali.This experimental research carried out by giving treatment in the form of a group discussion about career to learner with career decision making self-sufficiency rate is low. Subjects of this research were 40 students who comprised 20 students in the experimental group and 20 students in the control group. The data in this research was obtained from the students as the primary source. Data collection using questionnaires career decision-making autonomy. Data were analyzed using the non parametric statistical with Mann Whitney and wilcoxon techniques.The result of hypothesis testing pretest scores between the experimental group and the control group showed Asymp.Sig value (2-tailed) of 0,957> 0,05, then Ho is accepted that there is no difference between the career decision-making independence experimental group with the control group before treatment is given. Hypothesis testing posttest scores between the experimental group and the control group Asymp.Sig note that the value (2-tailed) of 0,000< 0,05, then Ho is rejected. These computating result tell us that there is a significant difference between the posttest scores career decision-making self-reliance in the experimental group treated with a control group who did not receive treatment. Hypothesis test between pretest and posttest scores showed a z score of pretest-posttest experimental group with a value of -3,926 Asymp.Sig (2-tailed) of 0,000< 0,01. That is, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and there is a very significant difference between the scores career decision-making self-reliance in the experimental group between before getting treatment and after getting treatment in the form of group discussions. Conclusions that can be drawn from the results of this experimental research is a group discussions about career effectively to increase the independence of career decision making of XI grade accounting students of SMK N 1 Boyolali.Keywords: group discussion, career, independence, decision-making.
