- The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of group guidance services with role-playing techniques to improve self-efficacy in learning the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Surakara Academic Year 2013/2014 .The study was a quasi-experimental study by using non equivalent control group design . The population is Junior High School eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Surakarta totaling 250 students . Samples were students of class VIII A as the experimental group numbering 32 students , and students of class VIII E as control group numbering 31 students. Sampling using cluster random sampling. Source of data derived from primary data obtained using a questionnaire instrument. The research data is students’ self efficacy in learning. Data analysis using SPSS 17 .Hypothesis testing using Two Way Anova, shows that there is no significant difference in self-efficacy scores in the study , that is the value of F = 0.545 with a significance value of 0.442 (0.442 > 0.05). There are differences in the average scores of self efficacy in learning between pre-test and post-test thatthe value of F = 14.924 with a significance value of 0.000 (0.000 < 0.5). There are differences in the average scores in the study self-efficacy questionnaire before being given a pre-test and post-test after the experimental group and the control group is the value of F = 5.201 with a significance value of 0.0025 (0.025 < 0.5) .So the conclusion of this study is the effectiveness of group guidance services with role playing technique is effective to improve students’ self-efficacy in learning at eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Surakarta Academic Year 2013/2014 .
