  • The purpose of this research was to find out the effectiveness of groupguidance with role playing technique to improve self-learning of 7th grade studentin SMP N 1 Ngawen Klaten academic year 2012/2013.This research is Quasi Experimental with this type of Non EquivalentControl Group Design. The research sample were 64 7th grade students of SMPNegeri 1 Ngawen Klaten. Data source derived by primary data, that is 7th gradestudents and secondary data is counselor. The technique of data collection usingquestionnaire. Analysis of data using statistical analysis technique Two-WayANOVA by SPSS application.Based on the results of hypothesis testing, showed that Fcalculated > Ftable,means H0 rejected and Ha accepted. Ha acceptance and level of significance thathave been known proves group guidance with role playing technique effective toimprove self-learning of students. The research was supported with a significancelevel of 0,05 means 0,004 < 0,05 and Fcalculated > Ftable is 8,580 > 3,82 means thereis difference of self-learning in the experimental group dan control group based onthe pre test group and post test group. Then the significance measurement is 0,05means 0,000 < 0,05 and Fcalculated > Ftable is 26,841 > 3,92 means there is adifference of self-learning between the experimental group and control group.Further significance group and measurement is 0,05 means 0,046 < 0,05 andFcalculated > Ftable is 4,050 > 3,92 means there is interaction between experimentalgroup and control group with pre test group and post test group in improving selflearning.The conclusion of this research was that group guidance with role playingtechnique effective to improve self-learning of 7th grade students in SMP N 1Ngawen Klaten academic year 2012/2013.
