- The effectiveness of vector control depends on the susceptibility of the malaria vectors to the insecticide used. Synthetic pyrethroid insecticide are recommended and used for vector control in Java-Bali by CDC. However baseline information on the susceptibility of Anopheles aconitus and Anopheles maculatus to that insecticide were not reported yet. This research therefore was conducted to determine the susceptibility status of malaria vector to the synthetic pyrethroid insecticide. Adults bioassays were carried out using standard WHO test methods. Field blood fed female malaria vector were exposed for one hour to 0.75% permethrin and 0.05% deltamethrin insecticide papers. Susceptibility test of An. aconitus from Wonosobo, Banjarnegara, Purworejo, Pekalongan, Jepara and Kulonprogo regency to 0.75% permethrin insecticide resulted in mortality of 86.0%, 94.0%, 92.5%, 96.0%, 96.0% and 96.25% respectively. Twenty four hours of exposure to 0.05% deltamethrin is required to kill 100%, 97.0%, 97.5%, 94.66%, 66.0% and 100% respectively. The susceptibility test of An. maculatus from, Purworejo (2 locations) and Kulonprogo regency to 0. 75% permethrin insecticide resulted in mortality of 85.0% & 100% and 85.0% respectively. Twenty four hours exposure to 0.05% deltamethrin is required to kill 97.5 & 100% and 97.5% respectively. It can be concluded that An. aconitus and An. maculatus mosquito collected from the field in Central Java and Yogyakarta Province shows a reduced susceptibility to both synthetic pyrethroids insecticides.
