- A study with qualitative approach was conducted in 1995, to examine various social cultural factors with the increasing of health services programs in Eti town, Seram Island, Central Maluku. Data were collected by observation and indepth interview with the local community. The life style, behavior, and tradition in the community related to health problems were explored through key persons, health providers, and mothers of children under 5. Results of the study showed that there were some beliefs in the community related to the clean environment in their town. Throwing the garbage into the river was prohibited since they used the river water for washing and bathing. Defication should not be done in their own house since it would make their houses dirty, but it should be done in the beach instead. There was a separate place in the beach for men and women for defication. The community also believe that clean house and clean garden, wouldfreed them from diseases and evidences.
