- The study was conducted to determine and assess the arrangements for the protection of existing public information after the enactment of Law No. 14 of 2008 about Public Information Transparancy (UU KIP). It is known that the purpose of UU KIP in accordance with Article 3 is to provide change for citizens in terms of protection of the rights to public information from the State. Applicability of UU KIP supposed to be a good start. In fact, it created new problems. Need to be investigated on how the actual arrangements for the protection of public Information after the UU KIP, and how is alignment between content of UU KIP with the principles of protection of the rights to public information. This research is a normative-empirical legal research. The data collected were analyzed using qualitative methods. The results of this study showed protection arrangements for public information after the UU KIP still found a very crucial substantive weaknesses. It contained potentially cause legal uncertainty and injustice. Associated with the provisions of Article 1 paragraph (2), Article 7 paragraph (I), Article 1 number 10, number 11, number 12, Article 7 paragraph (1) if it is associated with Articles 9, 10, and Article 11, Article 4 paragraph (I), Article 17, Article 19 and Article 51 of the Act on KIP). Unconformity between the content (The substance) of Act No. 14 of 2008 about Public Information Transparancy with the principles of protection of the rights to public information were also found. Content of UU KIP contraty, to the principles of protection of the rights to public information (The Johannesburg Principles on National Security, Freedom of Expression and Access to Information) is Article 4 paragraph (3).
