- This quasi-experimental research aimed to know the increasing of student’s mathematical communication skills with realistic approach. The mathematical communication skills is the ability to communicate mathematical ideas clearly to others using mathematical language to express ideas appropriately. The design of this research was one group pretest-posttest control design with the population was all students of grade seventh of SMPN 1 Pagelaran in academic year of 2014/2015 and the sample was students of VII-I class that was determined by cluster sampling technique. The data of mathematical communication skills were obtained by essay test. Based on the analysis of data, it was concluded that learning with realistic approach able to increase student’s mathematical communication skills.Penelitian eksperimen semu ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dengan pendekatan realistik. Kemampuan komunikasi matematis adalah kemampuan untuk mengomunikasikan pemikiran matematis secara jelas kepada orang lain menggunakan bahasa matematika untuk mengekspresikan ide-ide secara tepat. Desain penelitian ini adalah one group pretest-posttest control design dengan populasi seluruh kelas VII SMP Negeri 1 Pagelaran tahun pelajaran 2014/2015 dan sampel penelitian adalah siswa kelas VII-I yang ditentukan dengan teknik cluster sampling. Data kemampuan komunikasi matematis diperoleh dari tes uraian. Berdasarkan analisis data, diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa pembelajaran dengan pendekatan realistik mampu meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa.Kata kunci: kemampuan komunikasi, matematis, pendekatan realistik
