- This quasi experimental research aimed to know the influence of contextual approach to learning activities and student’s mathematical conceptual understanding. This research used one shot case study design. The population of this research was all grade 7th students of SMP Darul Istiqomah Mataram Baru Lampung Timur in academic year of 2014/2015. By cluster random sampling technique, it was chosen students of VIIb class as sample. The data of learning activities and mathematical conceptual understanding were taken from observation and test. Based on the results of data analysis, contextual approach has positive impact towards students’ learning activities and mathematical conceptual understanding. Penelitian eksperimen semu ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pendekatan kontekstual terhadap aktivitas belajar dan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan one shot case study design. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Darul Istiqomah Mataram Baru Lampung Timur tahun pelajaran 2014/2015. Dengan teknik cluster random sampling terpilihlah siswa kelas VIIb sebagai sampel. Data aktivitas belajar dan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa berturut-turut diperoleh melalui pengamatan dan tes. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, pendekatan kontekstual berpengaruh positif terhadap aktivitas belajar dan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa.Kata kunci: aktivitas belajar, pemahaman konsep, pendekatan kontekstual
