- This research aimed to know the effectiveness of discovery learning model in improving students’ mathematical problem solving skill. The population of this research was all students of grade 7th of SMPN 1 Pringsewu in academic year 2014/2015 that was distributed into 5 classes. The research sample was determined by purposive random sampling technique and it was selected students of class VII 3 as sample. This research design was one group pretest posttest. Based on the analysis of data, it was concluded that discovery learning model was not effective to improve students’ mathematical problem solving skill.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas model discovery learning dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMPN 1 Pringsewu tahun pelajaran 2014/2015 yang terdistribusi dalam lima kelas. Sampel penelitian ditentukan dengan teknik purposive random sampling dan terpilih siswa kelas VII 3 sebagai sampel. Desain penelitian ini adalah one group pretest posttest. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, disimpulkan bahwa model discovery learning tidak efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa.Kata kunci: efektivitas, discovery learning, pemecahan masalah matematis
