- This research aimed to find out the effectiveness of problem-based learning model on student’s mathematics problem solving ability. The research design which was used was post-test only control group design. The population of this research was all students of grade 7th of MTs Al Hikmah Bandar Lampung in the academic year of 2014/2015 that was distributed into five classes. The samples of this research were all students of VII.A and VII.B class which was chosen by purposive sampling technique. The data of this research were obtained by mathematics problem solving ability test. Based on the result of data analysis, it concluded that viewed by student's mathematical problem solving ability, problem-based learning model was not effective, but it was more effective than conventional learning model.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas model problem based learning terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah posttest only control group design. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII MTs Al-Hikmah Bandar Lampung tahun pelajaran 2014/2015 yang terdistribusi dalam lima kelas. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII A dan VII B yang diambil dengan teknik purposive sampling. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, disimpulkan bahwa ditinjau dari kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa, model problem based learning tidak efektif, namun lebih efektif dibandingkan dengan model pembelajaran konvensional.Kata kunci: konvensional, pemecahan masalah matematis, problem based learning
