- This experimental research aimed to know the effectiveness of cooperative learning model of think pair share type towards student’s mathematical problem solving ability. The population of this research was all students of class VII SMP Al-Kautsar Bandarlampung in academic year 2018/2019 which were distributed into nine classes. The samples of this research were students of VII D and VII E class which were taken by puposive sampling technique. The design used was pretest-posttest control group design. The data of this research were obtained by student’s mathematical problem solving test. The data analysis of this research used Mann-Whitney U test. This research showed that cooperative learning model of think pair share type was not effective towards student’s mathematical problem solving ability, however the gain of student’s mathematical problem solving ability in think pair share class was higher than the gain of student’s mathematical problem solving ability in conventional class. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas model think pair share ditinjau dari kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMP Al-Kautsar Bandarlampung tahun pelajaran 2018/2019 yang terdistribusi dalam sembilan kelas. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah dua kelas yaitu kelas VII D dan VII E yang diambil dengan teknik purposive sampling. Desain yang digunakan adalah pretest-posttest control group design. Data penelitian ini diperoleh dari tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa. Analisis data penelitian ini menggunakan uji Mann-Withney U. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran dengan model kooperatif tipe think pair share tidak efektif ditinjau dari kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis, namun peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran Think Pair Share lebih tinggi daripada siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran konvensional.Kata kunci: efektivitas, pemecahan masalah matematis, think pair share
