- This research is a kind of quasi experimental research that aims to find out the effectiveness of problem-based learning model in terms of the ability of understanding the mathematical concepts of students. The population in this research is the entire class VII students of SMP Negeri 21 Bandarlampung years lessons 2017/2018 distributed in 9 class. The sample of this research was a Class VII-D and VII-E are chosen by purposive sampling technique. The research design used was a pretest-posttest control group design. Research data obtained through mathematical concept understanding ability test students. Statistical tests are used namely test-t and z-test. The results of the analysis of the data indicates that effective problem-based learning model in terms of understanding the mathematical concepts of students. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian eksperimen semu yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas model pembelajaran berbasis masalah ditinjau dari kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 21 Bandarlampung tahun pelajaran 2017/2018 yang terdistribusi dalam 9 kelas. Sampel penelitian ini adalah kelas VII-D dan VII-E yang dipilih dengan teknik purposive sampling. Design penelitian yang digunakan adalah pretest-posttest control group design. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui tes kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa. Uji statistik yang digunakan yaitu uji-t dan uji-z. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa model pembelajaran berbasis masalah efektif ditinjau dari pemahaman konsep matematis siswa.
