- This research is a quasi-experimental research that aimed to find out the effectiveness of ethnomathematic-based discovery learning of student’s mathematical communication skill. The design which was used was posttest only control group design. The population of this research was all students of grade 8SMP Muhamadiyah 3 Bandarlampung in academic year of 2017/2018 has 177 students. The sample of this research were students of VIII-B class has 29 students that were determined by purposive sampling. The data research was yield by test (posttest) about the ability of mathematical communication. The statistical test used was t-test. Based on the results of research and discussion, it was concluded that ethnomathematic-based discovery learning was not effective to student’s mathematical communication skill, but the average of mathematical communication skill better than conventional learning. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen semu yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas pembelajaran discovery berbasis ethnomathematic terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa. Desain yang digunakan adalah posttest only control group design. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMP Muhamadiyah 3 Bandarlampung tahun pelajaran 2017/2018 berjumlah 177 siswa dan sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII-B berjumlah 29 siswa yang ditentukan dengan teknik purposive sampling. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui tes (posttest) mengenai kemampuan komunikasi matematis. Uji statistik yang digunakan yaitu uji-t. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan pembahasan, diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa pembelajaran discovery berbasis ethnomathematic tidak efektif terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa, tetapi rata-rata kemampuan komunikasi matematisnya lebih baik dibandingkan dengan pembelajaran konvensional.
