  • This quasi experimental research aimed to find out the effectiveness of think pair share learning model in terms of student’s mathematical communication skill. The population of this research was students of grade VIII in SMP Negeri 24 Bandar Lampung in academic year 2016/2017 as many as 296 students distributed into ten classes. The samples of this research were students of VIII B and VIII D class which were chosen by purposive sampling. This research used pretest-posttest control group design. The instrument of this research was essay test of mathematical communication skill. The data analysis of this research used t-test. Based on the result and discussion, it was concluded that think pair share learning model was not effective in terms of student’s mathematical communication skills. But, the increasing of student’s mathematical communication skills which was taught by think pair share learning model was better than conventional learning.Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen semu yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas model pembelajaran think pair share ditinjau dari kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 24 Bandar Lampung tahun pelajaran 2016/2017 sebanyak 296 siswa yang terdistribusi dalam sepuluh kelas. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII B dan VIII D yang dipilih dengan teknik purposive sampling. Penelitian ini menggunakan pretest-posttest control group design. Instrumen penelitian berupa soal tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis yang berbentuk uraian. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan uji-t. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan pembahasan diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa model pembelajaran think pair share tidak efektif ditinjau dari kemampuan komunikasi matematis. Namun, peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang mengikuti model pembelajaran think pair share lebih tinggi daripada pembelajaran konvensional.Kata kunci: efektivitas, komunikasi matematis, think pair share
