- This quasi experimental research aimed to find out the effectiveness of cooperative learning model of think pair square type viewed by students mathematical communication ability. The population of this research was all students of grade 7th of Muhammadiyah Junior High School 3 Bandar Lampung in even semester, academic year of 2015/2016 and the samples of this research were students of VII-B and VII-C class which were chosen by purposive random sampling. This research used posttest only control design. Based on the result of this research, it was gotten the conclusion that the implementation of cooperative learning model of think pair square type wasn’t effective viewed by students mathematical communication ability.Penelitian eksperimen semu ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe think pair square ditinjau dari kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Bandar Lampung tahun pelajaran 2015/2016 dan sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII-B dan VIII-C yang dipilih dengan teknik purposive random sampling. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain posttest only control design. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe think pair square tidak efektif ditinjau dari kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa.Kata kunci: efektivitas, komunikasi matematis, think pair square
