- This quantitative research aimed to find out the effectiveness of socrates contextual teaching and learning in terms of student’s understanding of mathematical concepts. The design of this research was one group pretest posttest design with the population was all students of grade 7th of SMP Gajah Mada Bandarlampung in academic year of 2015/2016. The sample of this research was all students of VII B class who were taken by purposive sampling. The data of understanding of mathematical concepts were obtained from pretest and posttest which was given to students before and after participating in socrates contextual teaching and learning process. Based on the result of this research, it was concluded that socrates contextual teaching and learning was effective in terms of student’s understanding of mathematical concepts. Penelitian kuantitatif ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas pembelajaran Socarates kontekstual ditinjau dari pemahaman konsep matematis siswa. Desain yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah one group pretest posttest design dengan populasi seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Gajah Mada Bandarlampung tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Sampel penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII B yang ditentukan dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Data pemahaman konsep matematis siswa diperoleh dari tes kemampuan awal dan tes kemampuan akhir yang diberikan kepada siswa saat sebelum dan sesudah mengikuti proses pembelajaran Socrates kontekstual. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan, diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa pembelajaran Socrates kontekstual efektif ditinjau dari pemahaman konsep matematis siswa.Kata kunci: efektivitas, pemahaman konsep, socrates kontekstual
