Tujuan dari DFA adalah merancang produk multi komponen sehingga proses perakitan akan menjadi lebih mudah dan waktu yang diperlukan semakin singkat. Sebab singkatnya waktu perakitan akan berimbas pada penurunan biaya produksi. Disisi lain ElMaraghy membuat suatu model tentang kompleksitas sistem manufaktur. Menurut ElMaraghy sistem harus menyeimbangkan karakter manusia, kebutuhan, keahlian(skill) juga kemampuan di dalam teknik dan lingkungan bisnis, agar berjalan efektif. Dalam pemodelan tersebut, ElMaraghy menggunakan tiga elemen, yaitu: jumlah informasi (total), keberagaman informasi, dan kandungan informasi (information content). Dalam Pemodelan ini kompleksitas produk dan kompleksitas proses dapat dihitung masing masing. Didalam tesis ini akan akan diperlihatkan bagaimana pengaruh perubahan DFA suatu produk terhadap kompleksitas produk dan prosesnya. Sebagai studi kasus, diambil komponen otomotif, yaitu CENTER PANEL yang merupakan hasil dari Injection Molding &lt;hr&gt; &lt;b&gt;ABSTRACT&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt; Design for Assembly (DFA) deals a product which comprises of several elements.
