ABSTRACT
Background: Carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC) is a noncollagenous protein analog material that has similar function as Dentin Matrix Protein 1 (DMP1). CMC stabilizes amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) therefore it can stay in nanoparticle form and remineralize matrix collagen dentin. Aim: To analyze the effect of CMC concentration in CMC-ACP towards dentin remineralization. Method: 25 cavity samples divided into 5 experimental groups. The first group is control group, the second group is applied with CMC-ACP that contains 1% CMC, the third group is applied with CMC-ACP that contains 2,5% CMC, the fourth group is applied with 5% CMC, and the fifth group is applied with CMC-ACP that contains 10% CMC. Remineralization was evaluated using SEM and EDX. Result: The highest dentin remineralization result is from group 10% CMC, 5%, 2,5%, and the least dentin remineralization is from group 1% CMC. Statistically, the calcium level of group 2,5%, 5%, and 10% CMC in CMC-ACP is constant. Whereas the phosphate level of group 1%, 2,5%, 5% and 10% CMC in CMC-ACP is statistically significant. Conclusion: The optimum CMC concentration in CMC-ACP is 2,5% that resulted in dentin remineralization.
