ABSTRACT
The aim of this study is to study pharmacological activities and chemical compounds of Indonesian medicinal plants, kayu lawang (Cinnamomum culilaban (L.) Presl.). Kayu lawang has been used by local people as traditional medicine and only a few scientific research studied this plant. In this study kayu lawang was extracted using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, methanol and water as solvents. All exctracts were subjected to phytochemical screening, antimicrobial, antioxidant and toxicity assays. Ethyl acetate extract that showed the highest activity compared to the other extracts, were then fractionated using column chromatography and antioxidant assay was conducted on fractions of these extracts. Two fractions were found to have high antioxidant activity and were identified as being eugenol and 4-hidroxy-2-methoxy cinnamaldehyde using GC-MS and NMR;The aim of this study is to study pharmacological activities and chemical compounds of Indonesian medicinal plants, kayu lawang (Cinnamomum culilaban (L.)
