- [Kecenderungan perkembangan teknologi yang mengarah kepada teknologi nirkabel (Wireless) dengan kemampuan penyaluran data berkecepatan tinggi mendorong para operator telekomunikasi berlomba-lomba memperluas jaringannya, khususnya bagi operator telekomunikasi dengan basis teknologi nirkabel. <br><br> Indosat sebagai satu-satunya operator telekomunikasi yang sekaligus menyelenggarakan jasa Selular dan FWA (Fixed Gireles Access) belum secara optimal memanfaatkan infrastrukturnya untuk pengembangan kedua jasa tersebut. <br><br> Penggunaan 2 (dua) platform teknologi yang berbeda dalam penyelenggaraan kedua jasa tersebut, yaitu GSM dan CDMA, akan mengakibatkan kompleksitas aspek operasional, pemeliharaan dan pengembangan di masa mendatang. Oleh karenanya penyelenggaraan jasa FWA dan Selular menggunakan satu platform teknologi yang sama dipandang akan menguntungkan Indosat secara jangka panjang. <br><br> Terkait dengan hal tersebut, maka dilakukan analisa kelayakan terhadap kemungkinan penggunaan teknologi GSM dalam penyelenggaraan jasa FWA. Analisa dilakukan terhadap berbagai aspek, yaitu: - Aspek teknologi, yang mencakup tinjauan kemungkinan pemanfaatan teknologi GSM untuk jasa FWA; - Aspek regulasi; - Aspek finansial mencakup analisa kebutuhan dan penghematan capex dan opex, serta analisa terhadap indikator kelayakan bisnis; - Aspek operasional, pemeliharaan dan pengembangan sistem/jaringan di masa mendatang; - Aspek pasar, yang mencakup daya saing dengan kompetitor dalam penyelenggaraan jasa FWA. <br><br> Hasil analisa terhadap aspek-aspek di atas menunjukkan bahwa Hasil analisa terhadap aspek-aspek di penyelenggaraan jasa FWA menggunakan teknologi GSM layak di implementasikan oleh Indosat., It is obvious that wireless technology trends is toward high speed data wireless technology, and telecommunication operators are racing to provide widest coverage network, particularly for those operators with wireless technology licenses. <br><br> Indosat as the only Telecommunication Operators having both Mobile and Fixed License has yet to optimally best use of it’s own infrastructure to develop both Mobile and Fixed services. <br>br> Having different technology platforms in service, both GSM and CDMA have introduced complex maintenance, operational and development for the future. For that particular reason, Indosat has a business overview that unified platform for Fixed and Selular (Mobile) services are beneficial for Indosat in long term. <br><br> Reference to the idea, analysis at the possibilities to apply GSM technology for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) has been done with particular perspective on: - Technology Aspect concerning studies for the possibility to use GSM Technology for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) Services. - Legal and Regulation Aspect. - Financial Aspect, concerning capex and opex analysis, opportunity for savings and indicator of business study analisys - chances for corporate revenue. - Operational, Maintenance and Development Aspect for Network System Future. - Market Aspect concerning competitive and competitor study in doing Fixed Wireless Business. <br><br> Analysis result of all aspects has provided conclusion that FWA services using GSM technology is liable to be implemented by Indosat.]
