Design: Uji klinis tersamar ganda kelompok paralel secara randomisasi.
Metode: 44 subyek dibagi menjadi.2 kelompok. Kelompok perlakuan 21 subyek mendapat suplemen vitamin C 50 mg, vitamin E 10 mg dan &#946;-carotene 6 mg selama 2 minggu berturut-turut, sedangkan kelompok kontrol 23 subyek mendapat plasebo.
<hr><i>Objective: To evaluate whether assigning antioxidants supplement to welders using safety goggles could influence the prolong recovery time of photostress lest.
Methods: The study is randomized, double-blinded clinical trial. Forty-four male welders were included and divided into two groups and conduct matched pairs based on age and visual acuity. Twenty-one (21) welders for 5 minutes work assigned with antioxidants (subject group), while twenty-three (23) welders for the same duration assigned with placebo (control group) were given supplement for 14 days continuously. The antioxidants contained vitamin C 50 mg, vitamin E 10 mg and &#946;-carotene 6 mg. The study was conducted at the Technical Institute of Welders in Surakarta from December 2004 through January 2005.
Results: The photostress recovery test in subject group produce an improvement (p< 0,05) while in placebo group remains unchanged (p>0,05).
Conclusion: Oral vitamin C 50 mg, vitamin E 10 mg and &#946; -carotene 6 mg are proven to reduce the prolong time of photostress recovery test in welders using safety goggles.</i></description><identifier>http://lontar.ui.ac.id/detail?id=112042</identifier><recordID>112042</recordID></dc>
