- AbstractThe research focused on the structure and function mantras in Malay society in the Simpuan Hamlet Semparuk Sub-District Sambas District. This research uses a descriptive method. This research is in a qualitative form. The approach in this study usese a structural approach. The source of the data was informants, namely Mr. Suharmi as the first informant and Mrs. Igus as the second informant. Data in the form of structure (rhyme and rhythm) and spell functions in the form of words, phrases and sentences. The techniques used are interview, record, translation, and not taking techniques. The result of this study are as follows. First, the rhyme contained in the Malay Sambas mantra which is obtained from the analysis of the eight mantras. The rhymes contained in the eight mantras are absolute rhyme, full rhyme, half rhyme, alliteration rhyme, assonance rhyme, dissonance rhyme, chirping rhyme, continuos rhyme, twins rhyme, hugging rhyme, twins hugging rhyme, cross rhyme, broken rhyme, horzontal rhyme, initial vertical rhyme, middle rhyme, and end rhyme. Second, the rhythm contained in the eight Malay Sambas mantras is obtained from the analysis of the eight mantras. The rhythm contained in the recitation of the Malay Sambas mantras as a whole has a flat tone, third, the functions contained in the Malay Sambas mantras which is obtained from the analysis of the eight mantras. The functions contained in the Mantra Sambas are dedactive, aesthetic, and religiosity funtions.Keyword: Structure, Function, Mantras Malay.
