- AbstractThis research aimed to know the effectiveness of cooperative learning model with STAD (Student Teams Achievement Division) on pythagoras theorem in 8th grade of SMP Negeri 2 Sungai Raya. The research method was qualitative research and the research design was pre-experimental design. The subject of this research were 29 students of 8th grade of SMP Negeri 2 Sungai Raya. There were three aspects that were used to determined the effectiveness of cooperative learning model with STAD, such as learning implementation, student’ activities, and test of students’ conceptual understanding ability. There were two techniques to collecting data, that’s are measurement and observation techniques. Tools was used in this research were test of student’ conceptual understanding ability using five questions in essay form, observation form of learning implementation, and observation form of students’ activities. The data was analyzed and found that the learning implementation was catagorized as good, the students' activity was obtained during two meetings including the active group, but the standard score of test did not meet the requirement. So, the effectiveness of cooperative learning model with STAD (Student Teams Achievement Division) on pythagoras theorem in 8th grade of SMP Negeri 2 Sungai Raya was categorized as not effective.
