USING ANIMATION VIDEO TO TEACH SELECTIVE LISTENING

  • Abstract This research is to investigate whether the use of animation fable video to teach selective listening affects significantly on the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Sungai Raya in academic year 2016/ 2017. The writer conducted pre-experimental research with a single group design (one group pre-test and post-test). The participants of this research were the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Sungai Raya. The sample of this research was classed VIII A that consists of 31 students. The writer used cluster-sampling technique in choosing the sample. Meanwhile the tool of data collecting of this research was a listening test. The study had been done in five meetings. The first meeting was for pre-test, three meetings were for treatments, and the last meeting was for post-test. The result of the data computation showed that the t-test of the students achievement after being taught by animation fable video showed tratio= ±10.438 which is higher than tcritical = 2.042. This proves that teaching selective listening by using animation fable video affected significantly increased the students’ score in listening. Therefore, the null hypothesis is rejected while the alternative hypothesis is accepted and the effect of the treatment is categorized into high effect.Keywords: Animation Fable Video, Selective Listening, Pre-experimental Design
