- Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan siswa dalam menulis sebuah ringkasan ditinjau dari isi dan kebahasaan yang digunakan oleh siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 10 Pontianak. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskritif dengan bentuk kualitatif. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII A SMP Negeri 10 Pontianak dengan jumlah 28 orang. Hasilanalisis data menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan siswa meringkas teks eksplanasi ditinjau dari kesesuaian isi ringkasan dengan teks asli mencapai kategori sangat baik dengan presentase 86,16%. Kemampuan siswa meringkas dilihat dari penggunaan kalimat efektif mencapai kategori baik dengan presentasi 71,89%. Kemampuan siswa meringkas dilihat dari penggunaan diksi mencapai kategori sangat baik dengan presentase 96,39%. Kemampuan siswa meringkas dilihat dari penggunaan ejaan mencapai kategori sangat baik dengan presentasi 96,80%. Kata Kunci: Kemampuan, Meringkas, Teks Eksplanasi Abstract: The purpose of this research to determine the student’s competence in writing a summary based on the content and the linguistic characteric which is used by the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 10 Pontianak. The method of this research is descriptive. The sample of this research are 28 student’s of class VII A SMP Negeri 10 Pontianak. The data analysis result shows that the student’s competence in summarizing explanation text based on the content compared with 86,16%. The student’s competence in summarizing based on the use of effective sentence reach good category with 71,89%. The student’s competence based on the use of vocabulary reach excellent category with 96,39%. The student’s competence in summarizing based on the use of spelling reach excellent category with 96,80%. Keywords: Competence, Summarizing, Explanation Text
