  • Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan Big Book sebagai media mengajar pada kelas empat SD di SD Lab UNDIKSHA Singaraja. penelitin ini dilaksnakan di SD Lab UNDIKSHA Singaja. Subjek penelitin ini adalah siswa kelas empat di sekolah tersebut. Data dalam penelitian ini diperoleh dengan menggunakan beberapa instrument penelitian, seperti; lembar observasi, interview guidelines, kuisioner guru, kuisioner siswa dan rubrik. Model penelitian Sugiyono(2011) digunakan dalam prosedur penelitian ini. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara kuantitatif dengan menggunakan persentase frekuensi. Setelah memperoleh persentase frekuensi, data tersebut kemudian dideskripsikan secara kualitatif. Dari hasil tersebut,media baru dikembangkaan, uji pakar, revisi, uji lapangan, dianalisis dan dikategorikan pada kategori tertentu. Melalui prosedur-prosedur tersebut, Big Book yang dikembangkan adalah “Find Me!”, “The Story of Little One”, “The Story of White Spotted”, “Fixie The Healer Fairy” dan “Strange Sunday”. Di samping itu, proses belajar-mengajar di sekolah sudh berlangsung baik. Big Book juga dapat digunakan secara efektif di lingkungan sekolah tersebut. Ditemukan pula, bahwa media yang dikembangkan dalam penelitian ini dikategorikan sebagai sebuah media unggul. Kata Kunci : pendidikan karakter, big book, pegembangan media, pembelajaran usia dini. This study aimed at developing character based big book as a media for teaching English at fourth grade students of elementary school at SD Lab UNDIKSHA Singaraja. It was conducted at one elementary school namely SD Lab UNDIKSHA Singaraja. The subject of this study was fourth grade students in that school. The data were gained by using several research instruments, such as observation sheets, interview guidelines, teacher questionnaires, students’ questionnaires, and rubrics. Sugiyono (2011) design model was employed as the present research procedures. The data obtained were quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. The analyzed data by using percentage of frequency, then, were described qualitatively. From the result, the new media were developed, judged by the experts, revised, tried out, analyzed and categorized to certain rating scale. From the result, it was found that the big book could be developed by conducting several procedures, such as conducting some procedures, identifying problem and issue, collecting data, designing product, validating product, revising design, conducting try out and revising design Through those procedures, excellent prototype big book were designed. However, the teaching and learning process in that school was better. Big book could be used effectively in the schools setting. It was also found that the media developed were categorized as excellent media. Besides, the competency of the students in that school could be improved.keyword : character education, big book, media development, teaching young learners
