- Annotation. Migration of population and, in particular, seasonal and temporary labour trips of Ukrainian citizens are a complex and multifaceted socio-economic process. Their study should have a systematic approach, a comprehensive study that involves the collection, systematization, analysis and generalization of a large array of diverse social and economic information using various sources and methods. The article focuses on the need to improve the information support of the analysis and regulation of migration. The main sources of information on population migration are indicated, their shortcomings and restrictions on use are emphasized. Unfortunately, statistical accounting of even external migration processes and, in particular, persons who immigrate to Ukraine and emigrate for permanent residence to other countries and especially those who go for temporary seasonal work abroad, does not provide adequate reality of the data, significant errors are noted in most countries, even those with population registers. Studies have shown that the level of information support is insufficient to solve complex problems not only of migration, but also of socio-economic development, improvement of demographic and migration policy of the state. This is especially true in the context of reforming the economic system, which provides for the creation of a new modern system of social protection. The authors emphasize the need to use additional sources of information, taking into account the types of migratory movements. The necessity of establishing a modern system of collecting information about migrants is substantiated. The need to introduce compulsory insurance of Ukrainian citizens on the eve of leaving the country has been raised.
