- The present work is part of the GeoEcoMar core program whose main objective is the scientific and technical basis for the inclusion of two sites with natural CO2 emissions from Banat and Harghita as natural laboratories in the European research infrastructure network in the field of capture, transport and storage of dioxide carbon (ECCSEL - European Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage Laboratory Infrastructure). A second objective is to substantiate the accession of GeoEcoMar to the ECCSEL consortium. The sites with CO2 emissions from Romania could be made available to researchers throughout Europe for testing new monitoring methods or for in-depth investigations of the mechanisms of CO2 migration to and from the surface. These types of studies are extremely important for preventing the potential risks associated with the geological storage of CO2 and increasing the level of safety associated with the technology.
