- In post-disaster situations, in which there are losses to historical buildings and museum collections, the recovery of patrimonial value takes place through processes of safeguard and communication. Based on this consideration, the objective of the study is to investigate the strategies for the reconstruction of National Museum heritage that involve the use of digital technologies. It is based on the finding that more than 90% of the collection, with around 20 million museum objects, was affected by a fire in 2018. For the conduction of the research, a qualitative methodology is used, based on bibliographic and documental studies and organized in a case study. Digitalisation and digital restoration strategies are addressed, with reflections on the integrity and authenticity of the collection. Collaborative digital strategies are analyzed too, and issues related to informational authority and curation are discussed. Finally, strategies of virtual reconstitution of the museum experience are considered. It is inferred that the process of reconstruction of the National Museum heritage contemplate the temporal dimension of change and variability, through narrative and contextual strategies, supported by digital technologies. It is proposed, thus, to understand the processes through which new heritage and knowledge are incorporated into the museum.
