That is why there are new models and approaches to internationalization of higher education to position the country beyond its border. Analytical materials contain the analysis of strategies of higher education internationalization in Europe: Italy, Germany, Poland, Russia, Finland and France. Study of internationalization in these countries illustrated the differences in national and institutional strategies. However, it is possible to observe the general goals and objectives, for example, the value of reputation (often symbolized by the rating), recognition (visibility) and competitiveness; competition for talented students and scholars; short-term and/or long-term economic benefits; demographic aspects; emphasis on international graduates' employment and social activity. The analysis of internationalization of higher education in these countries identified ten key trends: the increasing importance of internationalization at all levels; the impact of national strategies for internationalization on the institutional ones; insufficient financing of education; increase in the number of private institutions and the commercialization of educational services; impact of globalization; increased competition; the growing role of regionalization; lack of data; new directions in development of internationalization (digital learning). The results of the study can be used to develop strategy for internationalization of higher education in Ukraine.
