- In selective laser melting (SLM), due to the enormous size of data obtained during melt pool monitoring, it is very difficult to process and quantify it visually for easy detection of process anomalies. In our study, we derived a range of melt pool intensity for various geometrical location based defects (by varying energy density) which could possibly happen during printing**. We generate the melt pool monitoring reference data for AlSi7Mg0.6 based on the geometrical location for easy detection of process anomalies by linking melt pool intensity values to the particular defects. Due to varied heat conduction conditions in bulk and powder, we could animate all the scanning vectors and correlate its corresponding intensity values captured by melt pool monitoring. The final goal of this study is to reduce the use of non-destructive testing to identify geometrical defects and to improve the traceability of the defect location by a melt pool system.
