  • The aim of the present study lays in the investigation and discussion of the phenomenon of under-representation of afro-descendant journalist professionals as television news programs presenters on open signal TV channels. The theoretical framework used to analyze the phenomenon is comprised of the Theory of Established and Outsiders and the Theory of Social Representation. Through the content analysis technique on 27 television news programs from 07 TV channels it was possible to identify that the participation of Afro-descendant individuals as presenters reaches 6.15% whereas Caucasian individuals top 93.85%. Therefore, the results of the study reveal that the over exposition of one ethnic group characterize a condition of high asymmetry of social representation.
