Beania maxilladentata was recently described from Rio de Janeiro state on bryozoans, shells, serpulids and algae in 3–6 m of water. The species is characterized by small spines that never overarch the frontal membrane and by the presence of a strongly curved avicularian mandible with one or two tooth-shaped accessory structures. Distribution. Atlantic. Brazil: Rio de Janeiro (Ramalho et al. 2010; present study).
