- Nowadays, cancer is in the second place of the leading causes of death worldwide, estimated that by the year 2030, that position change to the first place. According to the Brazilian Ministry of Health, per year about 100 thousand new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed. Breast cancer is the most common type of malignancy among women. The main detection of this type of cancer is through the mammography examination, which is considered the most effective for the early detection of breast cancer. Considering that the early detection of breast cancer is fundamental to increase the patient's survival rate, it is essential to perform actions aimed at raising the awareness of the mammography examination. This study compares the information on the mammography equipment in the city of Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, made available by the national register of health equipment website and the mammography equipment in use in health facilities in the city of Uberlândia. The requests of the health facilities in the Image Quality Information System and Diagnostic Interpretation and the status of these requests are verified. The results obtained demonstrate that the amount of mammography equipments registered in the site of the national register of health equipment does not match the reality of the equipment in use in the city of Uberlândia. It was verified that the amount of mammographic equipment that provides care by SUS is much lower than the amount of equipment that attends the Supplemetary Health System. In addition, there was a lack of knowledge regarding the service provided by mammography facilities by health facilities. We conclude that there is a discrepancy between the information provided by the national register of health equipment website and the reality of the equipment in health facilities in the city of Uberlândia, caused by the lack of supervision of the data provided. In addition, it is extremely important to carry out inspections of equipment registered at national register of health equipment.
