- The officium scriptoriae represented the main occupation of the Writers’ Collegium in the Archivium Romanae Curiae founded by Iulius II in 1507: it was a venal office granted for life with possibility of resignatio. The critical edition of six contracts of societates officii scriptoriae kept in the libri instrumentorum produced by the Collegium, written between 1508 and the 1510, that is to say before the great diffusion of the offices’venality, tipical of Leo X’s age, offers new information about how to acquire the officium and how to effectively practice it in relation to some scriptores’careers.
