- Frugal innovation and inclusive innovation are increasingly popular concepts. We argue that an approach that embraces complexity can help to support effective use of both, even though this seems at odds with the aura of simplicity that surrounds frugal innovation. The approach revolves around involving insights from stakeholders from different contexts early on in the innovation process before making the crucial choices that strongly influence the next steps. We show examples how this approach positively affects inclusiveness on process level as well as inclusiveness of the outcomes, while not making the innovation itself more complex or resource-rich. We recommend using the approach in more settings to further verify its potential.
