ANALYSIS OF TOOTH LOSS DUE TO CARIES WITH DENTAL AND ORAL HEALTH BEHAVIOR IN THE ELDERLY

  • Background: It is estimated that by 2025, Indonesia will experience the largest increase in the number of elderly people in the world. The Indonesian population has dental and oral problems with 31.9% in the proportion aged 55-64 years. Elderly is very closely related to the decline in all body organ functions including functions in the oral cavity, one of which is tooth loss which is often experienced by the elderly along with increasing age, that the degree of public health is determined by heredity, behavior, heredity and health services. Poor oral and dental health behavior is one of the main causes of periodontal disease. Objective: To analyze tooth loss due to caries with dental and oral health behavior in the elderly at Posbindu Blok 1 Malahayu Village, Banjarharjo District, Brebes Regency. Methodology: The research design used descriptive analytic observational method, population of 18 elderly people and total sampling. Research measuring instrument for behavior by questionnaire and for tooth loss by intra oral examination sheet. The results of the study: the number of tooth loss in the elderly, most of them lost < 6 teeth around 61.1% and the behavior of the elderly about dental and oral health most of the criteria was sometimes (moderate) as much as 77.8%. Conclusion: the results showed that there was an effect of tooth loss due to caries on the behavior of the elderly in Posbindu Blok 1 Malahayu Village, Banjarharjo District, Brebes Regency.
