- Amikom University Purwokerto is one of the private universities in the city of Purwokerto. There are English courses that must be studied by students, including listening, reading, speaking, writing. Amikom University Purwokerto places more emphasis on reading skills for students, in teaching and learning activities carried out by lecturers in English subjects the exams conducted still use manual input systems or use a handwriting system where lecturers give examinations and students answer on a sheet of paper. There are so many obstacles using the examination system on paper media including when the assessment process, where teachers will do manual calculations on student answers that require a short amount of time and subjective judgments will appear and unread answers from students so that the assessment will have a less good quality . The method used by the author is the process of matching answers using TF-IDF word weighting and cosine similarity. So from these problems an English course at Amikom University in Purwokerto needs to be designed and built an automatic Essay exam application in an English course. The results showed that, the researchers succeeded in making the design of automated Essay assessment applications in English courses by applying the website-based cosine similarity method.
