- Psychological barriers are commonly faced by people in speaking. In speaking English, it can cause problem in oral communication. This study aimed to investigate psychological factors affecting speaking performance of English education study program students of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang, describe causes of psychological factors affecting students’ speaking performance, and provide possible solutions to overcome causes of psychological factors. This study used a qualitative research. One of the qualitative research designs applied in this study was descriptive analysis. The participants of this study were English education study program students of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. The data were collected through questionnaire and interview. The data were analyzed and presented descriptively. The results of this study showed that there were some cause of psychological factor that affecting students’ speaking performance, as follows: a) lack of motivation, b) anxiety, and c) lack of self-confidence.
