  • In this issue the section announces a major new award, honoring a key figure in its development and ongoing activities. The David Collier Mid-Career Achievement Award recognizes distinction in methodological publications, innovative application of qualitative and multi-method approaches in substantive research, and/or institutional contributions to this area of methodology (see the next page for the full announcement and details). As most of you will know, David was the driving force behind the formation of the section, authoring the original emails requesting support, guiding the petition through the APSA bureaucracy, and serving as founding President. Since then David has given to the section tirelessly, for ex-ample leading short courses and/or working groups at every APSA meeting. David’s applied scholarly work is of course widely renowned. David has also made key contributions in multiple areas of methodology, including comparative case analysis, process tracing, typologies, and measurement to name just a few. As a mentor, David has guided the careers of an extraordinary number of scholars. In short, David is the exemplar of the kinds of activities the award seeks to recognize. (An endowment for the award has been established at CQRM by gifts from several scholars, but of course additional support to solidify that fund would be very welcome. Please email me at ggoertz@u.arizona.edu if you would like more details on how to make a gift.)
