  • In a study of the behaviour of aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, succinic add is found to form a complex with thorium, and thus lead to loss of thorium. Further, at the to of optimum precipitation of thorium, the cerite earths also precipitate. Adipic acid is shown to precipitate quantitatively and free thorium after a double precipitation from the cerite earths in the \(p\)H range 4.2 to 4 4 Thorium in monazite has been successfully estimated in this way.
