- The electrometric titration have been carried out with Sb2S3 sol and the consequent release of hydrogen ions has been studied during the course of coagulation by stepwise addition of un-, bi-, and tri-valent electrolytes. A relation between the coagulating power of different electrolytes has been found by comparing the amount of H+ released at a particular concentration. Similar observations have been made to study the behaviour of the electrolytes in presence of non-electrolytes (agar agar, gelatin, and starch). Sensitising and stabilising tendencies of the non-electrolytes at different concentration have been studied. The observation reveal that coagulating power increases as valencies of the coagulating ions are increased, leading to the proposed mechanism of the electrolytic coagulation.
