- Addition of ethanol to aqueous colloidal systems usually lowers the dielectric constant of the medium. In t hr. came of tit:ink oxide hydrosol, mixed with KNO3, the gradual addition of EtOH promotes the sensitisaion of the sol Light-scattering method boa been used to study this effect. A linear relation has been found between lug(D/a) and log t, where D, a, and t represent the dielectric constant of the medium, the activity of the added electrolyte, and the time to attain a particular turbidity of the sol, respectively.
