- Reduction of nitrous acid by ferrous and stannous ions in widely changed, acid concentrations has been studied potentiomotrioally. Ferrous ions reduce nitrous acid to the NO state and stannous ions to the NW state when conditions are suitable. Holf the ferrous ions are lost by aerie] oxidation in this titration. Starting with low concontra alone of SnCl2 (M/200), the nitrite requirement is lees than that expected for reduction to N2O.
