- Unstable, yellow coloured cobalt(II) bis 1-amidino-O-alkylurca complexes have been oxidised in presence of ammonia to stable rose-red coloured diammine bis 1-amidino-O-alkylurea cobalt(III) complexes. The ligands are found to undergo proto nation to different extents resulting in salts of different ionic natures. Equivalent weights have been determined and aqueous conductances evaluated to verify the ionic natures. Chemical evidence points to a trans disposition of the two ammonia groups. Spectral measurements are also reported, which show two bands typical of 3d6 cobalt (III) complexes. For 1-amidino-o-m~thylurea (AMUH), the complexes described are of the following types: (1) [Co(NH3)2 (AMU)2] X. aq., (2) [Co(NH3)2 (AMU) (AMUH)] X2 aq. and (3) [Co(NH3)2(AMUH)2] X3 aq.(where X= a univalent anion). Similar complexes haveĀ·also been isolated for other 1-amidino-O-alkylurea ligands.
