  • Department of Physical Chemistry, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Jadavpur, Calcutta-32 Received 4 September 1972 The problem of molecular weight determination of polymers containing ammonium salt groups at the ends of the m.olecules has been investigated. Tetrahydrofuran is regarded as the suitable solvent for the determination of Mn of such polymers. Polymers with isothiouronium salt as end group were found to be significantly associated in toluene, while little or no association in toluene was observed with polymers bearing tertiary ammonium. salt as end group. Association in dilute solutions of carboxyl ended polystyrene was noted only for lower mlecular weight (around 30,000) polylmers.
