  • Department of Chemistry, Ravenshaw College, Cuttack-3 Manuscript received 26 November 1971; revised 15 February 1973; accepted 6 April 1973 Dissociation constant of CdCl+\(\rightleftharpoons\) Cd++\(+\) Cl- have been determined at 35°, 40° and 45° by using the cell of the type : Ag, AgCl \(|\) HCl (m1) CdCl2 (m2) \(|\) H2, Pt .. .. (I) and found to be 0.0079, 0.00767 and 0.0074 respectively. The ∆H of ionisation of CdCl+ \(\rightleftharpoons\) Cd++ \(+\) Cl- found to be 1300.00 Calories ± 100 Cal/ mole. Using the ionisation constant of CdCl+ and studying the cell: Hg, Cd (11.8%) \(|\) CdCl2 (m) 20% Dioxane\(|\) AgCI, Ag .. .. (II) and HgCd (11.8%) \(|\) CdCI. (m1) \(|\) AgCI\(|\) Ag\(|\) AgCI\(|\) CdCI2, (m2 ) \(|\) Cd (11.8%)Hg in 20% dioxane-water mixture, Eo for the cell U is found to be 0.5305, 0.5262 and 0.5205 at 35° , 40° and 45°respectively.
