Calcutta-700009 Manuscript received 30 May 1973; accepted 30 August 1973 A number of 1-alkyl-2-methyl-3-benzyl-3-carbethoxy pyrrolidines were prepared as possible analgetic agents by reductive ring closure of 3-carbethoxy-3-cyanomethyl-4-phenyl butan-2-one and subsequent alkylation. 1-Methyl derivative showed analogetic activity at a toxic dose level.
