- Department of Chemistry, Regional Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur Manuscript received 15 February 1976, accepted 8 December 1976 Zinc phosphate reacts with urea nitrate when the powders of the two solids are ground together for 1-2 hours. The resulting product becomes completely water soluble when the mole ratio of tribasic zinc phosphate to urea nitrate is 1:4 and may be utilized as a suitable fertilizer for nitrogen, phosphorus and zinc deficient soils. The interaction occurs in two steps : (i) formation of ZnHPO4 in the solid phase and (ii) conversion of ZnHPO 4 to Zn(H2PO4)2 in the solid-liquid phase.
