A problem of simultaneous diffusion and chemical reaction in a plane sheet has been worked out by a powerful operational method due to Heaviside1. Expressions for C (concentration) and Mt (amount of solute in the sheet) are obtained in a very simple way and some important conclusions are drawn from the concentration distributions and sorption curves. The problem is discussed in two different cases, viz. (I) Surface concentrations are constant, and (ll) Surface concentrations vary linearly with time.
